讲座内容简介：

Thelecture explores the classical and philosophical roots of the liberal artstradition. Next, I explore the role of liberal arts colleges in the history ofAmerican education, including the expansion of state (land-grant) universities.Liberal arts colleges have responded to some of their challengers byintroducing new reforms, including emphasis on collaborative research,community engagement, and practical training. The lecture highlights some ofthe unique aspects of the liberal arts approach to education.

施康德( Scott Wilson)教授，康奈尔大学博士，美国南方大学（The University of the South）政治学系系主任，武汉大学客座教授，中美富布莱特高级访问学者。
